2020 Community Sustainability Program Funds – Deadlines Approaching in MA

If you represent a town, city, municipality, or community in Massachusetts you may be interested in finding ways to engage your residential homeowners in the area of being more sustainable. Maybe you are a Mass DOER Green Community, maybe you’ve done significant work to reduce the emissions of your city-owned buildings, and maybe you’re looking for the next big area of opportunity (to reduce emissions city-wide).

Our residential homes account for 23% of our greenhouse gas emissions in Massachusetts – second only to transportation. The challenge, as you probably know, is that we don’t directly control our resident’s homes. In order to make great strides in reducing the emissions from our residential homes, we need a city-wide campaign consisting of homeowner awareness, education, action, and sustainment. And, a city-wide sustainability campaign requires time, money, and “know-how”.

At Path to a Green Home, we can help you with “know-how” and time, but the money part is often a challenge.

The good news is that new programs are continually emerging to help towns and cities with funding for such community programs. As a matter of fact, there are four such programs in Massachusetts right now. Unfortunately, the deadlines for 2020 funding is quickly approaching.

Three of the programs (Mass CEC/DOER Solarize Mass Plus, HeatSmart Mass, and Mass Save Municipal Partnership) have application deadlines of November 15th, November 15th, and November 6th respectively. If interested in the Mass Save Municipal Partnership, you will need to submit your Statement of Interest by October 30th. And, the deadline to submit questions regarding the Solarize Mass Plus and the HeatSmart programs is October 18th!

The fourth program is a Mass DOER Green Communities community outreach and engagement program, but those applications will not be due until late this year.

The table below from Mass CEC does a good job of summarizing who is eligible, eligible technologies, and program timelines/deadlines for the three programs mentioned above.

2020 MA Community Program Funding Sources

Three programs to help Massachusetts communities with funding for their Sustainability outreach programs.

For more information on what these programs provide and general funding amounts, please review the slides from Mass CEC or contact us directly.

If you need help, Path To A Green Home helps communities with the application process, the design of the community program, the execution of the community program, and the tracking of the community program.

We still have time! Don’t lose out on 2020 funding sources to help with your own residential campaign. Contact us for more information or to get our assistance with your 2020 community program.
